Sacral Chakra Healing
Swadhisthana, or sacral chakra is the second one in ascending order, located in the lower abdomen area. The duties of the second chakra include emotional and sensual movement, opening to pleasure, and learning how to be more laid back and easygoing. It is related to the hips, sacrum, lower back, genitals, womb, bladder, and kidneys, and is involved with sensuality, sexuality, emotions, intimacy, and desire, as well as circulation, urination, menstruation, orgasm, tears.
Excessive or insufficient sacral energy can manifest physically as low back pain, reproductive diseases and elimination problems, and also cause emotional and mental problems, such as feelings of apathy, defenselessness, impulsiveness, blame, or guilt. Living with these emotions every day can negatively influence the decision making process and its consequences. Second chakra imbalances affect mental and emotional perceptions. Leading a balanced or imbalanced life reflects the content of the energy inside the wheels. By increasing awareness of the reasons behind the choices one makes, the fears, illusions, and excuses can be defeated and balance restored to sacral energy.
People with a balanced second chakra tend to be friendly, open and trusting, in contact with their feelings and able to express them, optimistic and resourceful. On the other hand, an imbalanced sacral chakra causes guilt, self-pity, manipulative behavior and envy. A second chakra that is too open, may lead people to forget their own needs, and occupy themselves too much with the needs of others. In contrast, an obstructed sacral chakra can lead to obsession with sex and complete disregard for partners. Sex may be seen as an utterly physical act, devoid of feeling. On the opposite end of the spectrum, one may become frigid or impotent.
This point has a strong relationship with certain foods such as seeds like flax, poppy, psyllium, pumpkin, hemp, sesame and sunflower, which are therapeutic for this spot because of their rich content of healthy fats. It also goes well with tropical fruits that embody the same qualities of delight, joy, relaxation, pleasure and freedom. Mangoes, pineapple, papaya, banana, oranges, kiwi, figs and coconut are all tropical fruits that nurture the second chakra. In general, orange colored fruits can help to restore the sacral chakra to its correct vibration, since orange is it associated color. Moreover, nuts and vegetables such as carrots, orange bell peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and yams, as well as fish (especially salmon) have a beneficial effect on the sacral chakra.
