Root Chakra Healing and Meditation

The root chakra or muladhara is the first of the seven main chakras from bottom to top. This point pf energy is located at the base of the spine and is the slowest spinning one. It is represented by the red Maladhara mandala or the element of fire. The first chakra is the base of the physical body; it triggers vital forces within the body and aids in providing stability . It acts on the immune system, energy, basic impulses, instincts, endurance and fight or flight reactions. It has to do with the survival, including food, shelter and protection. When this chakra is well balanced we feel healthy, alive, free, optimistic, happy, steady and full of vitality. However, if the base chakra has excessive energy flowing through it, it could lead to selfishness, greed, irritation and aggression. Too little energy on the other hand is a cause for anxiety, lack of confidence and ability to finish things. When this chakra is not working properly it negatively affects the legs, bones, adrenal glands, colon, kidneys and spinal column. There are at least three ways to achieve root chakra balancing, with color, with sound, and with meditation.

The primary color for the base chakra is red, but other colors can help to balance it. Visualize any color that comes to mind trickling into the root. Classical music, nature sounds or brainwave audio tracks can be played in a comfortable place free of disturbances. Also highly recommended are the sounds of Tibetan bowls. Meditation can combine the use of color and sound, to help you relax while you visualize the color with the proper frequencies for root chakra balancing.

It is widely believed that the early years have a deep impact on the health of the base chakra. Infants who are fed on demand and given plenty of love and security are thought to have healthier root chakras, while those deprived or love or left to cry when hungry tend to grow needy and prone to developing a victim mentality.  A blocked base chakra in adulthood may provoke constant worries about money or feelings of dissatisfaction with work or home-life.  It can also bring about eating disorders, smoking, drinking and gambling, as well as diseases such as lower back pain, hemorrhoids, constipation and sciatica. Depression may comes as a consequence of disliking one&;s own body. A good massage, a healthy diet and enough sleep can help strengthen root chakra balancing.
